Reporting and Tax Specialist

Bulgaria | On-site | Full-time

About the Role

We are seeking a Reporting and Tax Specialist to join our Finance team and take ownership of the accuracy and timeliness of our monthly financial reconciliations and management reporting, while also serving as the team’s go-to for ad hoc tax research and compliance questions under Bulgarian tax legislation.

It’s a great fit for someone with an accounting, tax, or audit background who enjoys both the discipline of a monthly close cycle and the variety of tax and technical research.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Reconciliations

  • Perform monthly financial reconciliations, including bank, balance sheet, and intercompany accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Prepare monthly management reports and supporting schedules for review by finance leadership.
  • Support the month-end and quarter-end close process, ensuring reporting deadlines are met.
  • Maintain clear supporting documentation and strengthen internal controls around reconciliation and reporting processes.

Tax Research & Compliance

  • Conduct ad hoc tax research on Bulgarian tax matters (corporate income tax, VAT, withholding tax, and related regulations), summarizing findings and recommendations for the business.
  • Monitor changes in Bulgarian tax legislation and assess their impact on the company’s reporting and compliance obligations.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of statutory tax filings and returns, in coordination with the external accounting team.

IFRS & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Help ensure financial reporting is aligned with IFRS requirements and support any related documentation or disclosures.
  • Liaise with auditors, tax authorities, and external accountants as required.
  • Support other finance projects and process improvements as needed.

Requirements

Experience & Education

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in accounting, auditing, tax, or financial reporting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, Economics, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of IFRS and a good understanding of Bulgarian tax legislation (corporate income tax, VAT, and related compliance requirements).

Skills & Work Style

  • Strong Excel skills; comfortable working with accounting/ERP systems.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage recurring deadlines alongside ad hoc research requests.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to research a tax question independently and present a clear, practical answer.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Strong communication skills, comfortable working directly with colleagues across the business.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to grow into a broader finance and tax role within a stable, established company.
  • A collaborative finance team and direct exposure to management-level reporting.
  • Ongoing support for professional development.
